Headteacher’s Welcome

Dear parents, carers and visitors,
On behalf of the children, staff and Governors, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Rice Lane Primary School and Nursery. We are a happy, inclusive, and family-oriented three‑form‑entry school with a 90‑place nursery and two specialist SEND classrooms.
At Rice Lane, our aim is to equip children with the knowledge, skills, and personal qualities needed to become culturally and globally aware, compassionate, and responsible members of both our local community and the wider world. We create a learning environment where every individual’s dignity is nurtured, supported by our commitment to the core British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance.
Our values—respect, resilience, independence, creativity, critical thinking, engagement, achievement, nurturing, and enthusiasm—are woven into daily school life. Our mission, “We are respectful, resilient and together we achieve”, shapes how each child is supported to flourish at Rice Lane.
Rice Lane proudly embeds trauma-informed and attachment-aware principles throughout our school culture. We understand that children’s experiences—both positive and adverse—shape their ability to engage with learning, build relationships, and thrive. As such, we are committed to creating a safe and nurturing environment where every child feels seen, heard, and valued. All staff are trained to recognise the impact of trauma and attachment difficulties and to respond with empathy, consistency, and understanding. We use relational approaches to behaviour, focus on emotional regulation and co-regulation, and ensure that our classrooms promote connection before correction.
We believe that emotional well-being is the foundation for academic success—and we are proud to be a school where children are supported not only to achieve, but to feel safe, valued, and understood.
We place great value on the partnership between home and school. We know that when parents and carers are actively engaged in their children’s learning, outcomes are stronger, confidence grows, and children thrive. We encourage open communication, shared decision-making, and active involvement—from everyday learning support to school events and celebrations.
You are warmly invited to visit our school to experience our nurturing, inclusive environment firsthand. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to look around our school.
We look forward to welcoming you into our Rice Lane family.
