Headteacher’s Welcome

Dear Parents, Carers and Visitors,
On behalf of the children, staff and governors, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Rice Lane Primary School and Nursery. We are a happy, inclusive and family-centred three-form-entry school with a 90-place nursery and a specialist Key Stage 2 SEND classroom.
At Rice Lane, we proudly embrace trauma-informed and attachment-aware approaches. We recognise that children’s experiences can have a significant impact on their emotional wellbeing, relationships and ability to learn. As a result, we are committed to creating a safe, nurturing and supportive environment where every child feels valued, listened to and understood. All staff are trained to recognise and respond to the effects of trauma and attachment difficulties with empathy, consistency and understanding. Through positive relationships, emotional support and a strong sense of belonging, we help children feel safe, confident and ready to learn.
We use relational approaches to behaviour, support children to develop emotional regulation skills and create positive learning environments where connection comes before correction. We believe that when children feel safe, supported and understood, they are better able to engage in learning, build confidence and achieve success.
Our school is built upon three core values: Respect, Resilience and Achievement. These values guide our decisions, shape our culture and influence the way we learn, work and interact with one another every day. We encourage children to treat others with kindness and consideration, persevere through challenges and strive to be the very best they can be.
Our aim is to provide every child with the knowledge, skills and personal qualities they need to become confident, compassionate and responsible citizens. We strive to develop children who are prepared for life in modern Britain and equipped to make a positive contribution to their local community and the wider world. Our commitment to the British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, and mutual respect and tolerance underpins all that we do.
We place great importance on the partnership between home and school. By working together, we can provide the best possible opportunities for children to flourish academically, socially and emotionally. We encourage open communication, meaningful collaboration and active involvement in school life, recognising that strong relationships between families and school have a positive impact on children’s wellbeing and achievement.
You are warmly invited to visit our school and experience our caring and inclusive community for yourself. Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you would like to arrange a visit.
We look forward to welcoming you into the Rice Lane family.
